Orange Butterfly

Oil on Wood
6 x 8
SOLD
I thought this would be an easy piece, but it was surprisingly difficult. I had to make decisions about how symmetrical I wanted the butterfly to be, and the color choice for the background was difficult. Originally it was to have a pale beige background, but I changed it to this blue-green. I thought I made the butterfly small enough, but it still ended up stretching out almost to the edges, which will make framing difficult. It will need a frame that doesn't overlap. If I had it to do over, I would have made the butterfly much smaller.

...or angle the butterfly so it does not go edge to edge.

BUT -- I like it. I think it is beautiful. Much harder to paint symmetrical items..especially with this kind of detail.
