Sardines

Oil on wood
6 x 8

I had a lot of fun painting these sardines. I love the metallic look of fish and tried to capture that, as well as the shine of the can. I was surprised when I opened the can, though: I have never eaten sardines, and thought that the heads would be on them!

Hi Carol! Found your blog through Alvin Richard's. Your work is lovely and distinctly you which is a huge compliment. I find your painting style to be refreshing. Thanks for the visual treat!

Hi Carol,
I too found your site through Alvin Richard's blog. What an original idea for subject matter - sardines! I clearly remember as a child when my dad would open a tin of sardines and devour the whole thing. Thanks for the memory!!! :-) Your work is absolutely beautiful. Would you mind if I provided a link from my blog? Thanks.

Thank you both very much, I was struck by the shininess of the sardines and wanted to try to capture that. Joanne, feel free to link to me :-)

Hi Carol. The first thought i had was that I hoped you worked quickly because sardines can be a little stinky. :) The painting is beautiful, and I do like the metallic nature of the fish, which you captured very well.

This is beautiful. Very nice paint. I guess that's where the term "packed in like sardines' comes from. Never opened a can myself... Bravo!
